3/9/2014 - Congratulations to Ben Swarr for his 5th place finish at the PIAA State Championships this past weekend. Ben went 4-2 on the weekend capping his Garden Spot wrestling career with a 3-2 win in the 5th/6th place match during the final medal round Saturday evening. With that, Ben sets the new Garden Spot All-Time Wins Record at 143 wins.
Will Finkey had a solid showing and went 1-2 on the weekend. Congratulations to both wrestlers for proudly representing Garden Spot at the State Championships in Hershey.
3/4/2014 - The Garden Spot Camp Week will be held from July 7th through 10th, 2014. Camp will be held in the Garden Spot High School wrestling room and Old Gym. Save the dates! More details to follow.
3/4/2014 - Congratulations to Connor Finkey for placing fifth at 107lbs in the first ever PJW Jr. High State Championships Tournament held in Western PA over the weekend. Connor lost his first match to the eventual champion and battled back in the consi's winning four matches in a row before losing and dropping to the fifth place medal bracket where he won to take fifth place. Congratulations Connor on placing fifth in the state at 107lbs!
2/23/2014 - Two Garden Spot wrestlers have qualified for the PIAA State Championships! Congratulations to Ben Swarr and Will Finkey for their third place finishes and for qualifying for the PIAA State Championships to be held at the Giant Center in Hershey March 6-8, 2014.
2/19/2014 - The Garden Spot Wrestling banquet will be held on March 26th at Shady Maple Banquet Room. Social Time and appetizers begin at 6:00pm. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. 2/16/2014 - The Sr. High Spartans finished third in the team standings in the PIAA District 3, Sectional 4 tournament. In all, five Spartans qualified for the District 3 Championships. Congratulations to the following wrestlers:
1/29/2014 - The Sr. High Spartans lost in the first round of District Duals to Wilson West Lawn by a score of 18-49. It was an accomplishment to make it to the post season heading in as the 11th seed in District 3 out of 63 teams. And now the focus shifts to the PIAA Sectional, District and State tournaments.

1/26/2014 - The team was lead by 4 wrestlers making it to the finals including Seniors Zach Martin (132), Alex Aharonian (145), Ben Swarr (170) and Junior Will Finkey (152). With their performances and the strong finishes by every team member, Garden Spot finished 3rd in the team standings to Solanco and Manheim Central.
Ben Swarr earned his second League Championship title in two years at 170lbs. Ben was the first seed in his bracket and won the title with dominance earning falls or major decisions over every opponent.
Will Finkey earned his first League Championship title at 152lbs. Will was also a first seed and earned falls against his first 3 opponents and a 5-2 decision in the finals.
Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 Champions!
1/23/2014 - The Sr. High defeated Conestoga Valley by a score of 42-23 to take sole possession of the LL League Section 2 title. CV took an early lead but the Spartans fought back immediately with 3 consecutive wins to overtake the Buckskins including a fall by senior Ben Swarr (195), a fall by senior Alex Wilson (220) and a decision by senior Michael Bressi (285).
The score remained close and was tied after 6 bouts but the Spartans then pulled away to never relinquish the lead and finished strong with 3 consecutive falls by Senior Alex Aharonian (152), Junior Will Finkey (160) and Sophomore Dan Swarr (170). This is the third LL League Section 2 title in 4 years for the Spartans and the fifth in school history. Overall, the Spartans outscored their League Section opponents 376-116 points this season.
Ben Swarr broke Garden Spot's all-time win record on Saturday at the Thomas Hecker Duals tournament. Ben tied the record of 123 wins with his first period fall against Avon Grove and then broke the record with his first period fall against Central Dauphin. The previous record of 123 was held by Jeff Witwer (1989) and Nick Cook (2013). As of January 19th, 2014, Ben's win record stands at 126 and counting.
1/19/2014 - Congratulations to Downingtown East for winning the 2014 Thomas Hecker Memorial Duals tournament.

This Thursday August 8th, Rubicon is holding a mini wrestling tournament/weight lifting competition at the Solanco wrestling room. Wrestling periods will be 2-1-1. The weigh lifting competition will be a bench press, maximum reps using 50% of a competitor's body weight. This competition is for those going into 7th - 12th grades only.
We had great interest at Open Mat this past week and have reserved 2 vans for the event. Vans depart from Garden Spot high school at 4:30pm. Please arrive at 4:15pm. The vans are for wrestlers and coaches only.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND, please email coach Schilling ASAP. Space in the vans is limited and is first-come, first-served so reply quickly. In addition to the limited space, a roster must be turned into the school ahead of time.

Garden Spot coaches and alumni entered a team in Central York's Bald & Fat tournament held on April 7th, 2013. There were two divisions, the Past my Prime division (25 to 35 years of age) and the Dead division (36 years and older). In a 33 team field including 233 wrestlers from 8 different states that featured several NCAA All-American's and former state champions, Garden Spot lead for most of the day. In the end, the "old men" of Garden Spot fell to the hometown favorites Central York by just 5 points. Garden Spot finished with 125 points. Lower Dauphin Blue was a distant 3rd with 81 points. It was an outstanding performance by the Garden Spot team. Congratulations and thank you to the following coaches and alumni for proudly representing Garden Spot:

Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) School District is comprised of 3 elementary schools, Brecknock Elementary, Blue Ball Elementary and New Holland Elementary. All three graduate to Garden Spot Middle School followed by Garden Spot High School.
